Batangas City Embassy Chill gave Negros Pau Muscovados a beatdown on Monday, August 21, handing them a loss at the Batangas City Coliseum, 83-62, in  this latest outing from MPBL.

The game began with stunning baskets from Batangas City’s Levi Hernandez and Carlos Isitfor a quick 9-2 advantage. The Muscovados, on the other hand, demonstrated tenacity by carrying out a strong retaliation that reduced the deficit to 6-11. Despite this, the Embassy Chill responded immediately with the help of John Ambulodto’s brilliance, taking the score to 16-9.

Before the first period ended, Batangas asserted dominance over their opposition. They finished the quarter with an incredible 21-15 lead—a result from a sequence of well-executed shots—the majority of which were delivered by the brilliant Jeckster Apinan.

The Muscovados came back with a forceful offense under the direction of Jonathan Gantalao Jr., but despite their efforts, Batangas City maintained its grip with the lead. Apinan and Hernandez each added extra points, giving Batangas City a commanding 42-21 advantage in the first half.

In the third quarter, Batangas City continued their offensive onslaught, starting from John Rey Villanueva’s back-to-back baskets. Teammate Rhaffy Octobre exhibited brilliance with the three-ball, helping his team have a dominating 65-43 advantage by the end of the period.

Hernandez was named Player of the Game for his tremendous 17-point performance, which featured four three-point bombs. His overall effort included four blocks, two assists, and a well-executed steal, solidifying Batangas City’s 8th place in the overall standings in this round-robin elimination.

Apinan put up 13 points and 14 rebounds, with Ambulodto, Villanueva, and Oliver Arim all contributed significantly by scoring nine points each. With their help, the Embassy Chill improved to a 19-5 record.

Meanwhile, Jason Melano of Muscuvados demonstrated his scoring prowess by making 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Leo James Ingles also made an impression by posting 11 points and seven rebounds, demonstrating how hard the Muscovados worked. However, their effort fell short compared to their previous triumph—a 77-61 thrashing of Quezon City Toda Aksyon V Fresh.

The game ended in a crushing defeat for the Muscovados, who were urgently striving to make the playoffs in the Southern Division, which has been extremely difficult. Their aspirations are now challenged because their record has slipped to 10–16, putting them in a difficult spot.

This Thursday, 24, 2023, the OKBet-MPBL will head to the Bren Z Guiao Convention Center for games against Nueva Ecija and Bicol at 4 p.m., Caloocan and Bacolod at 6 p.m., and Zamboanga against Pampanga at 8 p.m.
