The Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines is a professional Filipino basketball team currently competing in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2023 season. Alongside Davao Occidental Tigers, they’re also one of the three active teams based in Mindanao, and the only team based in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The Zamboanga team joined the 2018-19 season as Zamboanga Valientes, and later, due to management issues, rebranded its name to Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines. With its continued progress in the league, the team was also invited to play in the Filbasket (AsiaBasket) and in the Chooks-to-go Pilipinas 3×3.
After its participation in the 2019-20 season, the team decided to postpone in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, made its comeback in the 2022 MPBL regular season, one of the most successful seasons for Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines so far. Led by Jaycee Marcelino, the team clinched top speed in the MPBL south division and made it to the finals by defeating Batangas City Embassy Chill. Unfortunately, Zamboanga lost to the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards in the four games. Though they didn’t make it to be a champion, the 2022 MPBL season will always be the best season for the team.
